How to look after your teeth?
This is Mole- R. He helps us to look after our teeth and mouth.
Mole-R is going to help us learn more about oral health using his tools The tooth brush is to make sure we keep our teeth clean. The timer is to make sure, we spend the correct amount of time cleaning our teeth.
Today Mole-R is going to teach us how we can keep our teeth healthy and strong.
Why do we need our teeth? ? ? ?

It’s important to look after our teeth and mouth? We only get 1 set of adult teeth. No extra sets. . We need to look after our mouth because gums and the jaw-bone underneath hold our teeth in place If we don’t look after our teeth, they will become decayed and could be lost.
What causes tooth decay? 1. Germs build up everyday in our mouth. They are called PLAQUE. 2. PLAQUE is a thin sticky film. It contains bacteria. 3. The bacteria eat the sugar in our food and drinks and makes acid. The acid attacks our teeth.
4. Enamel is the hard layer on the outside of teeth. The acid from the bacteria attacks the teeth. 5. If the enamel is eaten away, the tooth gets decayed. It will cause tooth ache. 6. The decayed tooth might require a filling to stop further damage. Otherwise it will be lost.
How can we prevent tooth decay? Brushing our teeth. Visiting the dentist. Eating a healthy balanced diet.
Brushing our teeth Mole-R always carries a toothbrush and uses toothpaste. Brush your teeth twice daily for 2 minutes with a fluoride tooth paste. We should brush using a toothbrush with a small head and medium textured bristles and toothpaste containing fluoride. We should use a pea sized amount of fluoride tooth paste for brushing our teeth. . The fluoride content of our toothpaste should be between 1350 to 1500 ppm (parts per million) (Have a look at your toothpaste tube at home)
Brushing our teeth We should brush our teeth twice daily for 2 minutes. Brush your teeth twice daily for 2 minutes with a fluoride tooth paste. We should brush daily at bedtime and at one other occasion with a fluoridated tooth paste (1350 -1500 ppm). Brushing at bedtime is important to protect our teeth while we sleep. 2 Minutes
Brushing our teeth. We should brush in small circular movements and on all the surfaces of our tooth. Brush your teeth twice daily for 2 minutes with a fluoride tooth paste. We should change our tooth brush every 3 months or if the bristles are bent over. We should spit our toothpaste after brushing and should not rinse. If we rinse, the fluoride protection will be lost.
Why is brushing our teeth important? Brushing our teeth, brushes away the plaque. Toothpaste contains special substances called Fluoride helps to strengthen our enamel. Brushing twice daily with fluoride tooth paste will protect our teeth from tooth decay.

Why is visiting the dentist important ? 1. The dentist will look at our teeth and gums and check them. They can do an extra clean if needed. 2. Regular visits to dentists helps to spot any problems with our teeth in the early stages. 3. Visiting the dentist can help us to protect our teeth.
