GETTING STARTED Measure the size of your ORIGINAL image.
STEP 2 Draw a grid on top of your image using 1 inch squares. drawn line tick marks To get perfect rectangles, you want to make 3 TICK MARKS WITH PENCIL before you draw your line.
STEP 3 Here comes the math part! Figure out how big you want your FINISHED drawing to be. YOUR FINAL DRAWING SHOULD BE AT LEAST DOUBLE IT’S SIZE. GO BIGGER IF YOU CAN! FOR EXAMPLE, SINCE THIS IMAGE IS 3” x 5”, THE FINAL DRAWING
STEP 4 Draw a grid on your final paper. If your doubling the size of your image, what size should the squares be on your grid? 2 inch squares
STEP 5 Sometimes it helps to LIGHTLY number the squares on your final paper to match the squares on your original image. Numbering your squares helps you to draw in the correct box. Look at the proportions for this square. Notice it doesn’t look exactly like the original. To prevent this from happening on your drawing, make sure you DRAW THE CORRECT PROPORTIONS IN EACH BOX! DRAWING IS ALL ABOUT LOOKING!
PRACTICE FIRST USING A PENCIL, COMPLETE THE GRID ACTIVITY ON A 12” x 18” SHEET OF POSTERBOARD. YOU MUST RECREATE: CONTOUR SHOE DRAWING (pay attention to the thickness of lines) and VALUE MANNEQUIN Complete third drawing for 5 -10 points of extra credit. (If measured correctly all three images will fit on paper)
