Why Should An Undergraduate Student Go Foreign Internship? Most of my co-interns were from 2 nd year itself. Students go foreign intern in 2 nd year, and then industrial intern in 3 rd year. Strongly recommend 2 nd year students that even if you aren’t research oriented, then also one must try for a foreign interns. Could develop his/her interest in research after visiting such sophisticated world class labs. One really gets a required exposure to a new world. It helps in ameliorating your network which is very momentous in this globalised world. Helps in getting good universities for pursuing M. S/Ph. D

GENERAL PROCESS 1) Prior Research work 2) Searching Profs. 3) Art of writing mails

1) Prior Research Work 2 nd year Good time to embark Start reading research papers. Chose your mentor wisely 3 rd year Could write “Review Paper” and send it to conference Ask mentor for performing experiments and publishing paper

2) Searching Profs. & Creating Database Search for Professors working in your field of interest. USA- Very difficult for funding Many opportunities in Europe & Australia Make a database of their email ids.

3) Art of writing e-mails The most important part of the application The cover letter must be short. Send mails via your institutional domain (xyz@ce. ism. ac. in) Start early- from July/August Always attach your CV with the cover letter Be as polite as possible in your e-mails Send a follow up mail only after 3 -4 weeks Never send mails to two different professors of the same university (department) in a single week.
