Purpose Section The display board should clearly state the purpose of the research. In the purpose section, tell the audience the following things: What you tried to accomplish Why did you do this project What question(s) was asked? OR What hypothesis was tested What gap in the knowledge was addressed Researchers presuppose a target audience, identify the audience. Examples of target audiences: • Parents visiting a neonatal clinic • Consumers of long-term care insurance • Small business owners purchasing print ads
Purpose Example To analyze the controversy surrounding students’ Fourth Amendment Rights in school by creating a realistic compromise that ensures both school safety and student privacy. This compromise will be presented to and judged by legal scholars.

Examined analyzed previous suggestions that have been made on how to balance school safety with student privacy. Interviewed legal scholars about the implications of the Supreme Court’s decision in New Jersey v. T. L. O. Wrote an extensive research paper for the National History Day Competition focused on the “Conflicts and Compromises” associated with the privacy issue. Investigated America’s adversarial system to create the first Mock Trial team at Atholton High School.
