How to connect a virtual and real world of energy? Bojan Žnidaršič, VITRA, Slovenia Workshop on Provision of Highly Efficient Heating and Cooling Solutions for Residential Buildings Villa Cagnola (Gazzada Schianno, Varese, Italy) 18 – 19 October 2017
Who I am? http: //svetovanje. vitra. si/
Where do I work?
Where is Slovenia? • Population: 2 mio • Area: 20. 000 km 2 • Average density: 100 inhabitants / km 2
Different clima in each region
Land use • More than 60 % surface is forest.
Regional division Regions are only statistical. In fact, we only have two levels of authority. State and Municipality.
Municipality level We have 212 municipalities, the density of the settlement is very different. Problems: Many authorities (mayors), "paper" LEK (Local Energy Concept), regional diversity and climatic diversity of sub region
Structure of final energy use Table EN 28 -1: Structure of final energy use by purpose of use after conversion of energy consumption for heating to average cold winter 2009 Heating 2010 2011 2012 % 65. 8 65. 2 65 Preparation of hot % water 17. 5 17. 6 17. 7 18 Cooking % 4. 1 4. 2 Lighting % 1. 8 1. 7 Large household appliances % 6. 6 6. 7 Other uses % 4. 2 4. 7 4. 6 4. 4 Source: EUROSTAT, 2013
Where are opportunities? households multi-dwelling buildings public buildings non-residential buildings q total area of buildings according to the real estate register q potential for energy renovation buildings of the narrower government
Today vs past • • We live in a time when construction of family homes, public buildings and business facilities is changing dramatically. Increasingly expensive energy and environmental requirements result in stricter planning permission, building regulations and installation, maintenance and operating standards. The modern construction is in all respects almost completely different from the construction a decade ago. This is why the investor (too) often doesn’t have access to the right information, doesn’t know where to look for help, who is responsible for a certain question, who is in charge, who should do what … Due to the lack of credibility of information, the investors make hasty decisions or take questionable advice from their relatives, friends, contractors or merchants. To avoid this, we designed a portal NEP Slovenia (2009), as a tool to facilitate decision making process. Each investor can find credible, non-commercial and useful information for two key segments of each building: – Thermal envelope and – Heating of the rooms and sanitary water
Portal NEP Slovenia • 100% free access • Information for the user are understandable • Usability is multi-level • 1. The "energy" handbook is intended for households, students, teachers, entrepreneurs and contractors 2. User to user. First-hand information of 660 buildings from all over Slovenia 3. Video clips with experts, over 100 articles, over 100 energy mistakes, answers to questions, . . . 4. The most effective is personal consulting in the office for new buildings or on the building for reconstruction. For conclusion • This workshop presents many examples of good and successful practices. It is sensible to connect and transfer them to other countries. • When we are connected, we are strong. I firmly believe in the essence of lifelong learning: Each one, teach one.
