Bang! The starting gun roared deafeningly as the crowd erupted in excitement. The competitors flashed past as fast as lightning. But no-one knew what would happen next.
A long time ago on the dreamtime, spiders had two legs. A spider named Kuranti was a fast but selfish, boasting runner. Kuranti was still young but only had one friend who was a moth. His name was Manta and a rumour spread that he was his secret sidekick. A butterfly called Shelanta was smaller than everyone her age and had no friends at all. Although she was very friendly and kind she was too shy to speak to anyone. Anyone who needed help or advice would go to a wise, old koala called kyllee. Their culture was believing in their great Goddess who punished anyone who deserved it. Kuranti would challenge anyone he wanted to challenge at running.
Early one bright morning, Shelanta shuffled silently into the fresh rainforest hoping noone would make fun of her like always. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. Manta stormed into the forest and snatched her by the neck while everybody else watched in dead silence, their faces bright red and their hearts pounding out of their chests. She was carried harshly out of the forest, too petrified to say anything. But she already knew what would happen next. “You will race me at 3: 00 sharp today. ” Snarled Kuranti the second she met his flashing, red eyes. “You should off hurried up, ” he muttered. It was already 10: 00 so at least she had five hours without being humiliated. She sauntered back into the forest, trying to hold her breathe so she wouldn’t start bawling. I’ll fake a smile to pretend everything okay. She thought suddenly. At exactly 3: 00 she lined herself up at the starting line. Bang! The crowd clapped wildly. But halfway through the race she felt like she could go no more but Kuranti was metres away from the finish line. She had lost tragically. The crowd started to giggle, their faces bright red, holding back there unappreciated laughter. “Ha! Ha!’’ Came a pestering voice that sounded familiar. “You are so slow!” Bellowed rude Kuranti. But she couldn’t stand her meanness any longer. Two tears trickled down her heartbroken face. He laughed gleefully, overjoyed at what he had plotted. “Game over for her, ’’ murmured Kuranti, not feeling guilty at all. She fluttered off, heartbroken, back into the still, silent, forest. “I should off known better, ” she whispered too herself.
“Greetings, Ulysses Butterfly, ” spoke Kyllee the Koala solemnly. “What is your problem and how can I help you? ”Inquired Kyllee daintily. She started to speak but it was if her words were being blown away with the wind. Shelanta clenched her fists in frustration. She didn’t even know what she was saying! Everything is against me. “Slow down and just clear your head, ” murmured Kyllee gently, interrupting her negative thoughts. She spoke again but this time clearly and fluently. She told the whole story with no exaggerations but their every action and word. “Do not worry my friend, he will be punished from his selfishness by our great Goddess. ” “Thank you for giving me this helpful information. I will be back with you soon, ” she told her respectfully.
The next day, there was a deafening scream from Kuranti’s web and she immediately knew what had happened. But she didn’t smile or scream with joy. She was just glad he got what he deserved. She didn’t exactly know what happened but she was sure he had been punished for his mean doing. She strolled over to his house, trembling slightly at the vision that had popped up in her mind. She found that she wasn’t the only one who was curious about the scream. She took off swiftly into the misty air and flew till she was centimetres away from the beautiful web. She gasped what she saw. There was Kuranti with eight legs!
There was a horrified scream from the small crowd gathering around his luxurious web. Kuranti was there but not knowing how to react to the scream he just hung his head down, ashamed. Of course, this was a harsh thing to do to a mean spider who was still young but if you knew and counted all the cruel things he did to the animals who were innocent, you would totally understand. All of a sudden, out of all the people who would start crying, Kuranti started to bawl! Everyone gaped at the unfamiliar sight but no-one moved for they didn’t know what to do as it had never happened before! He sniffed and snuffled a little bit before whispering “I’m super sorry guys. I really did not mean to cause all this trouble. ” His face was bright red from embarrassment and his fur was now looking midnight black as it was soaking wet from tears he had cried. “Of course we forgive you, ” Shelanta replied softly.
The next morning, Kuranti crawled around with Manta apologising to everyone he hadn’t said sorry to. He also offered very kindly to help out with some jobs. He looked different today, his eyes shining and a bright smile on his face. Everyone forgave him. He was never mean to anyone ever again.
