How Supplements Effect Weight Loss By: Austin Hoffman Tech & Assess December 19 th, 2017
Purpose/Context • The purpose of this project was to find out how supplements either effect or do not effect weight loss • As Americans, a healthy way of life is coming around more and our world is taking on a healthy initiative • The main goal was to see how these diet supplements effect weight loss in both proper techniques and improper techniques • There have been previous studies that show that even though these diet supplements aren’t regulated by the FDA, they have still been seen as effective in proper weight loss techniques.
Method/Learning Outcomes • The method used to collect this data would be your basic data recording. These students would report to me or send in their results to me weekly so I can collect it properly • The students really seemed to like the diet supplement Alli and it seemed to be a supplement that they all enjoyed taking • From our students descriptions, their overall happiness with the study was very high and some even thought about making healthier decisions as they moved forward. • This was great study for me to get acclimated to this field of data collection. As I proceed forward with my future career, data collection and assessment will be a big part of my job in any occupation I am interested in.
Basic Description of the Study • The method that was used for this project included taking 10 college students in the age range of 20 -30 years of age and assessing their eating habits and supplementation • These students would stick to the same diet and caloric intake. We would then take a weekly assessment of weight loss and overall progression/happiness • During this time the students would take the diet supplement Alli for one month and we would assess the final results to come to our conclusion. • This population seemed the most appropriate due to all of my subjects being in the health related field and majority included exercise in their daily routine.
Results/Data Analysis • Our results that were collected were actually supportive of my being hypothesis and theory. • Supplementing a diet pill with weekly exercise (3 -5 days) and a caloric intake in the subjects range will mirror the most successful results • Out of the 10 subjects, the top three subject lost 15, 11, and 9 pounds each. These subjects included either a moderate to high intensity in either cardiovascular or weight training exercises. • All of the subjects who lost the most weight were males.

Evaluation and Reflection • The decisions of supplementing a supplement while working out and eating properly was a positive one for those who have made the effort • The results show that diet and exercise play a crucial part in weight loss and how much weight is actual lost by that subject • Trying to supplement Alli without a proper diet or lack of exercise seemed to show minimal results from our experiment • I feel that the results really do speak for themselves and should open others eyes. Majority of people feel that just taking a diet pill will help them lose all the weight in the world but that isn’t exactly true. There a other co factors that need to be taken into consideration in order for this supplement to work effectively.
