HOW IS STATIC ELECTRICITY USED TO PAINT CARS? • The principle of electrostatics in spray paint is most used for spraying cars. The paint inside is charged and the nozzle of the spray gun is given the same charge as the paint touches it. As the paint droplets hold the negative charge, they leave the nozzle and create a mist. • There are spray paints designed for use on specific materials, such as wood, metal, plastic, or cloth, so make sure to select the right one. Avoid cheap, generic spray paints and stick to high-quality brands, which are more durable and shoot a more consistent flow of paint.

How it works - Paint is charged negatively (molecules spread out) - Car is charged positively - Paint is attracted to car (opposites attract)
