Your final task of the year is an independent project. ★ You will select a country that you have strong family links to, e. g if you & your parents are all from HK, you will study HK; if you have a parent from Thailand, a parent from Australia, grandparents from China, and you are from HK, you have a big choice to make. . . think sensibly about which country you will be able to study. ★ You will produce a poster, on poster paper (to be distributed nearer the handin). ★ You will conduct an interview with a female family member, to find out about their life experiences.

How has the role of women changed in a th society of your choosing in the 20 century? Interview a female member of your family – grandmother, auntie. Consider: Education (e. g. What education did she have? What subjects? Different from boys/men? Job opportunities Marriage Who brought up her children? Expectations – her own? Her parents’? Is life easier / better now? Why? What (if anything) would she have changed about her life?

The following are all important in helping you to succeed on this project: ★ Organisation - don’t fall behind ★ Seek help if you are struggling ★ Include a timeline on your poster, to show the clear chronology (timescale) of change ★ Organise your work into sections, e. g. How did education / employment / legal rights / clothing / expectations of women change over time? ★ Explain how and why change took place ★ Examine how far one event can change the lives of women, e. g. if the law bans discrimination, does discrimination end overnight?
