Teeth chew the food This poo-making machine shows how your body turns a tasty dinner into brown smelly stuff! The food tube (called the oesophagus – say es-off-a-gus) moves food to the stomach Spit enzymes start digesting the food The liver produces bile to break down fats Enzymes speed up digestion. Each enzyme is a type of protein molecule. Water is absorbed in the large intestine In the stomach, the food is churned with acid and enzymes to break it down In the small intestine, more enzymes digest the food. Food molecules pass into the blood Waste products are stored in the rectum

While you’re watching, remember: water = saliva orange juice = stomach acid bag = stomach tights = small intestine tray = body paper cup with hole = large intestine 1. Put the food, saliva (water) and stomach acid (orange juice) into the stomach (bag) and seal well, then squish it all up with your hands. 2. Cut one leg off the tights and ask a helper to hold it open over the tray. Snip off the corner of the plastic bag and squeeze the partially digested food into the small intestine (tights). 3. Use your hands to squeeze the food through the intestines (this is how muscles in your gut move food along). 4. Watch as the nutrients and water seep out of the intestines into the body (tray). 5. Snip the toe end off the tights and squeeze the undigested food waste into the large intestine (paper cup with the hole in it). 6. Time to do a poo! Use another cup to push the waste through the hole. Get ready to watch a digestion demo.

What you do: 1. Cut out the game boards and the matching pieces. Each player gets one set each. 2. Roll the dice to see who goes first – the highest score wins. 3. Take it in turns to throw the dice. If you throw a 1 -6, pick up the matching piece and place it on the correct part of the board. Make sure your partner checks it; if it’s wrong, you need to take it off and it’s your partners turn. 4. When you roll a second 6 you can then choose either a 7 or 8 card. 5. If you roll a number you don’t need, you must wait until your next turn to try again. 6. In order to place the poo on the board you must roll a number 2 and have placed all the other eight cards. 7. The first player to complete the poo is the winner.
