Can you predict? What will happen to your grass samples? Which grass will be the most healthy? Will any of the grass die?
Method 1. Cut out 4 grass samples using the cutter. They need to be the same size. 2. Take a photo of your grass so you remember what your samples looked like at the beginning of the investigation. 3. Put each grass sample onto a paper towel and label them: water and light; water and no light; light and no water; no light and no water. 4. Ask an adult to help you place your grass samples where they need to go. 5. Check your grass everyday. Water your two samples that need it so they stay damp not soggy. 6. After one week, collect your grass samples then compare how they look and feel. Take a photo of them and write down what you’ve noticed. 7. Put the grass samples back in the right place. Continue to care for them as before. 8. After another week, collect your samples again and make final comparisons. Take more photos and record your observations.
Concluding and evaluating • What do your results tell you about what plants need to grow and stay healthy? • How important is light and water to help grow plants? Is one more important than the other? • Do plants need water or would they grow in any liquid? How could you test this?
