I - What occupations did they have? • Most children in the Industrial Revolution didn’t actually work in the hard and potentially fatal jobs – although some did. Most actually worked outside, doing things like street cleaning, and others pawned off an employers’ goods. Of course, there were still a significant amount of child workers who did work that was dangerous. One of the riskiest jobs were the ones in mines, where death wasn’t all that uncommon.
II - What were working/living conditions like? • Regardless of whether the job refers to something like selling newspapers, versus working in a factory, the working conditions weren’t all that great. The better-off ones who did work like delivering mail still had to work for usually at least 10 hours a day, to say nothing about the ones who worked in mines. In there, the environment would be dark, and the air would be polluted by coal. Not to mention that the fear of things like accidental explosions and cave-ins.
• The explanation can be described as both simple, yet complex. The main reasons were that they needed to help feed their families. Some parents could not afford to feed their children without the children’s support. Of course, there were other reasons, too. Some children were forced into labour, while others had other reasons. Assumedly, some richer ones might've wanted pocket cash. III - Why did children working during the IR?
