Japan

This is the country of Japan and the flag of Japan.

In Japan, the traditional clothing is called a kimono.

Kimono means a "thing to wear" (ki "wear" and mono "thing"). The kimono is worn by men, women and children.

• Kimono are generally worn with traditional footwear (especially zōri or geta) and split-toe socks (tabi).

Kimonos are worn in traditional Japanese ceremonies. They wear them to celebrate births, coming of age ceremonies, and weddings.

Traditional dresses in China are called cheongsam. The name “cheongsam”, simply means “long dress. ”

• The cheongsam is easy and comfortable to wear. • The neckline is high, the is collar closed, and its sleeves can be short, medium or full-length. • The dress is buttoned on the right side with a fitting waist, and often slits up from the sides.

Men would generally wear a Chinese tunic suit. They are darker colors and their clothes would be far less decorative as compared to women’s dresses.

Although the children typically wear western clothes like we wear, they dress in traditional wear on special occasions.

India

This is the country of India and the flag of India.

India is a large country with the second biggest population in the world and many different languages, cultures and religions.

India is known for its beautiful materials and clothes.

There are many kinds of clothing in India, but most women wear a sari made of colorful silk or cotton.

The sari is one long piece of material that is draped around the body like a dress.

The Salwaar Kameez is another outfit often worn. Salwaar are loose pajama like pants. The legs are wide at the top, and narrow at the ankle. The kameez is a long shirt.

Women generally wear a dupatta or veil to cover their head and shoulders.

Men in India wear sherwani. A sherwani is a long coat with a high collar worn by men during their weddings.

In India men often wear a dhoti. A dhoti is a rectangular piece of cloth, usually around 5 yards long, wrapped about the waist and the legs.

A pagri is a turban worn by men. It must be wrapped and tied.

Children of India sometimes wear traditional Indian clothing…

…but usually, they dress just like you and me!
