Housing LIN annual conference Successful event Housing LIN annual conference held on 18 February 2014 - ‘Extra care housing and dementia: learning today, improving tomorrow’ a great success. All 300 places went within 48 hours! • Keynote speakers included: • Lord Filkin, Prof Anthea Tinker, Jeremy Hughes (Alzheimers Society) and John Mathers (Design Council CABE • All presentations are now on Housing LIN website

Housing LIN update Web developments: • Working on new planning webpages to reflect latest National Planning Policy Guidance and recent planning viewpoints from the Housing LIN. Due to be launched in May 2014 • In discussion with Welsh Government about dedicated Housing LIN Cymru resources on latest policy, funding, research and practice developments on housing for older people in Wales

Housing LIN updates Policy news: • Submitted responses to DCLG consultation on LA Housing Review and fed in information on PRS in relation to Housing Guarantee Scheme following the March Budget • Worked with ADASS on submission to Budget in relation to housing for older people • Working with NHS England, Department of Health and wider housing sector on a Health and Housing Partnership Agreement to drive better links locally between CCGs and providers

Housing LIN update Funding news: • HCA/GLA Approved Housing Programme 2014 -2015 announced, with some emphasis in housing for older and vulnerable adults (HCA deadline 30 April) • Still awaiting announcement of Phase Two of CASSHF (no news!) • £ 3. 8 b Integration Transformation Fund (now called Better Care Fund) published and outlines plans submitted for expenditure from April 2015 by early April 2014. Includes capital housing component ie DFGs £ 220 m and further £ 130 m capital (awaiting scope of allocation arrangements)

Housing LIN update New Housing LIN briefings on Private Rented Sector and Extra Care Housing Two new briefing papers, launched at the Housing LIN annual conference, go into extensive detail into why there isn’t more high quality housing for older people to rent privately in mainstream or specialist accommodation. They ask: • • What are the barriers? What sort of private rented housing do older people want? • Would more of it encourage downsizing?

Housing LIN Update 3 ‘Oscar’ quality short films Bringing care home: promoting independence through integrated working Jointly commissioned with Skills for Care, three 5 minute films on Family Mosaic, Guinness Care & Support and SEQOL and how housing, care and support staff in three different organisations skilfully work to respond to the needs and wishes of residents and clients to deliver tailored care and support across a range of homely environments.

New activities/resources Other activities: • A series of regional Housing LIN meetings and regional conferences held this Spring, including a joint event with the SW Older People’s Forum, Gloucestershire Affordable Housing Associations Forum, and Housing & Care Bill event in Cambridge • Invitation to partner on projects eg research with University of Sheffield Design for Wellbeing programme, advice on service reconfiguration and innovation • Seeking sponsorship opportunities for events but also to help develop content on Housing LIN website and improve support offer to members • Working with SITRA and the University of Worcester on new dementia leadership programme
