Learning Objective To know that household objects are different today to how they were in the past.

What would people have used this for a long time ago? People had to wash their clothes by hand would have used a washboard and cloth like this one. They would have to fill up the metal tub with water and then scrub their dirty clothes against the washboard. It was hard work and could take a very long time.

What do we use today to wash our clothes?

What would people have used this for a long time ago? If people wanted hot water for a drink, to fill up the bath or to do their washing they had to use an iron kettle like this one. It had to be warmed up on the stove.

What would people have used this for a long time ago? People would have used this to listen to music. They didn’t have CD’s like we do today, instead they had records. To get the music to play they had to put the needle onto the record and then turn the handle to make the record spin and the music come out of the speaker.
