Hotels, hostels and rooms to let. . Many people work there. . But how many things do we actually know about their jobs? ? Let’s see some questions and the answers they gave to us
The job of a maid • What’s the criteria to be hired as a maid? • Basically a CV is enough but there’s big importance on the impression that someone gives during the interview • What’s your payment? It depends on how many hours someone works, their personal condition (married, divorced, with or without children etc) But the basic payment is 700 euro at first… • Do you have any vacation? I can have one month off work. • Is it a tiring job? Of course it is. I have to clean 10 -12 rooms daily and while having a smile on my face. I also have to keep an eye on the new ones, in order everything to be right.
• Do you have any prospects of being promoted? A maid, can be promoted and be master-maid, then be responsible for a floor and finally be responsible for the hotel to be maintained perfectly all year long • Are there any languages necessary? English is necessary and any second language is always acceptable. • How many hours do you work daily? 8 hours per day plus the possible overtimes • During winter do you work fewer hours? Only 6 hours, five days per week

I have to have previous service and be well organized • What’s your payment Around 1000 euro but it’s fluctuated due to some reasons, like personal condition (married, children) • Do you have any vacation? Yes I do. • Is it a difficult job? Maybe the most difficult in the whole hotel/hostel because I’m responsible for the entire hotel, which means. I must have my eyes open in order everything to be well prepared for the summer season. I have to keep an eye on the work teams, that paint the hotel, or carry the repairs etc. Also on the bartender, in order the bar to be always supplied with fruit, drinks etc. I’m responsible for the hotel to work properly! • Any prospects of being promoted? No, that’s the last level. .
Those who are responsible for the hotel to be perfect maintained are divided in two categories. The 1 st is the one who does all the manual labor, like gardening, electricity staff, repairing the furniture etc. The 2 nd is the one who keeps an eye on everyone else, like the bartender, the pool boy, the maids etc.
Accounting department • The accounting department is responsible for all the financial issues in the ho(s)tel. 1. It has to inform the internal revenue service books for the taxes, the incomes and the outcomes of a ho(s)tel. Also for the expenses that are made through the year. 2. Financial Management: incomes collection from the customers for stay and feeding outcomes paying the staff (maids, bartenders, chefs, grooms etc), paying the suppliers (equipment, cleaning staff/machines, food etc) paying in general: The government : taxes, insurance etc. Bank issues: checks, loans
• Of course all the previous information concerns the organized accounting departments that are in the hotel, with head accountant, book-keepers and helping guys. The accountant’s payment is around 1000 € and the other ones are not stable, they depend on the work they have to do. If the accountant doesn’t work in the hotel, his payment is lower.
