Horrible Histories
What are we doing? Going to be researching that dear little machine you use every ICT lesson How it all began, who started it all and laugh at how big, chunky and clumsy everything was! Now let’s start with a basic introduction to time. .
Timelines Timelines help us keep track of how everything started You can either start now and work back or start from the beginning and come up to date! You will be able to see how long it took for each step to happen more clearly See how events relate to you personally as well Over the next slide is an example of timeline. . .
Here is a timeline from the Sony company, of the products they have produced over the years. Look at how small the TV was in 1974, and notice the Computer from 1983!
Task Your teacher should have a set of laminated pictures Have a look at them and using the string, create a class timeline! Have a go at placing them in the correct order, the clue is in the picture and how OLD the item is!
Using the Computer. . Research the items now and see why these are major events in the Story of The Computer! The internet is at your fingertips remember only facts will do check out the BBC website, Britannica online Can you identify A) a year/date for the event B) who is involved, some may involve a company! Record you findings in Excel, column for year/date and the next for the event, have fun!
Plenary Hopefully, you will have found the correct dates and are not far away from the actual dates!! Place the images in their correct order on the timeline and realise that. . . The game really did come before the console to play it on, 1952 (‘OXO) & 1972 (Magnavox Odyssey) The mouse we readily rely on now, did look like that and made out of wood in 1970 plus Some of our year 9 students are as old as Facebook, 1997 it was launched!
