more facts… • Horizon 2020 is put at the heart of the EU’s blueprint for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth and jobs. • research + innovation = growth and jobs with its emphasis on excellent science, industrial leadership and tackling societal challenges

…societal challenges? • ageing population, • food security, • energy efficiency, etc. …the EU attaches high importance to integrate social sciences and humanities into the work programme.

What is the goal? • to ensure Europe produces world-class science, • to remove barriers to innovation • and to make it easier for the public and private sectors to work together in delivering innovation.

What else? • H 2020 also aims to enhance EU international research cooperation so there are more opportunities for Third Country participation. • Another important priority of the Commission is to ensure gender is embedded in the design of Horizon 2020 project proposals. • HOW? Its simplified rules and submission and grant management tools should facilitate participants' tasks.

Implementation • The Horizon 2020 programme consists of the following parts: ü ü ü Excellent science Industrial leadership Societal challenges Spreading excellence and widening participation Science with and for Society Euratom

Who can apply? • Horizon 2020 is open to everyone, with a simple structure that reduces red tape and time so participants can focus on what is really important. This approach makes sure new projects get off the ground quickly – and achieve results faster.

Is that all? • The EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation will be complemented by further measures to complete and further develop the European Research Area. These measures will aim at breaking down barriers to create a genuine single market for knowledge, research and innovation.

Other programmes… • COSME Programme for the Competitiveness of Enterprises and SMEs (COSME) will run from 2014 to 2020, with a planned budget of € 2. 3 bn. • 3 rd HEALTH PROGRAMME The Third Health Programme will run from 2014 to 2020, with a planned budget of 449 million EUR • CONSUMER PROGRAMME The Multiannual Consumer Programme 2014 -2020 has a planned budget of 188 million EUR.
