November 29, 2020 THE OMNISCIENT COUNSELOR “And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace. ” Isaiah 9: 6
AMERICANS AND COUNSELING 42% have seen a counselor 13% are currently seeing a counselor 36% are at least open to it 23% would never see a counselor Barna Group
I am an advocate because the Bible clearly encourages us to seek counsel. Proverbs 15: 22 “Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed. ” Proverbs 11: 4 “Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety. ”
I am an advocate because I have witnessed the benefits of counseling.
I am an advocate because I personally benefit from counseling.
Hear this truth: out of all the counsel I have either given or received there’s no counsel like that of JESUS, our Omniscient Counselor!
KNOW THIS ABOUT JESUS, OUR OMNISCIENT COUNSELOR HE KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT US “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me—just as the Father knows me and I know the Father —and I lay down my life for the sheep” (John 10: 14 -15).
Meaning of Omniscient That word, know, (gk. ginosko), means to know, to understand, perceive, or to have knowledge of.
Omniscient comes from two Latin words omnis signifying all, and scientia signifying knowledge. Therefore, it means that He (God) has perfect knowledge of all things, perfect understanding of all things, and perfect wisdom in all situations.
“O Lord, you have searched me and know me, You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts far away. You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it completely. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is so high that I cannot attain it” (Ps. 139: 1 -6).
HE KNOWS OUR NEEDS “For your Father knows what you need before you ask Him” (Matt. 6: 8).
“There’s not a day, an hour, a minute, or a second that He doesn’t know what you need. ”
HE KNOW WHEN TO SUPPLY OUR NEEDS “For even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent me aid more than once when I was in need. Not that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your account. I have received full payment and have more than enough. I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. And my God will meet all your needs according to riches of his glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4: 16 -19).
David says, “I have been young and now I am old; yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken, nor their seed begging bread” (Ps. 37: 25). Jesus says, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matt. 6: 33).
CONCLUSION What need has God met for you today? What need do you need Him to meet?
