HOPE THE ANCHOR OF OUR SOULS Hebrews 6
HOPE: THE ANCHOR OF OUR SOULS Hebrews 6: 19 -20
We need an anchor • External pressures • Illnesses • Death of loved ones
HOPE IS OUR ANCHOR (Heb. 6: 19) • Despair overwhelms if we do not see the better days ahead
PAIN AND HOPE • Jesus had hope, still wept (John 11: 4, 35) • Jesus had hope, still grieved and felt agony (Mt. 16: 21; 26: 38; Lk. 22: 44) • Hope doesn’t take away pain, it gives the strength to endure it (Heb. 12: 2)
HOPE IS OUR ANCHOR (Heb. 6: 19) • Despair overwhelms if we do not see the better days ahead • It keeps us from quitting or being pulled away from God.
THE CONFIDENCE GOD WANTS US TO HAVE • “God, desiring even more to show the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose…” (Heb. 6: 17)
THE SOURCE OF OUR CONFIDENT HOPE • Jesus entered into the presence of God (Heb. 6: 19 -20… John 14: 1617, 26 -29; 16: 5 -7; Acts 2: 4, 33, 36) • Jesus is high priest with a powerful sacrifice (Heb. 6: 20; 10: 10 -12) • Jesus is forerunner (Heb. 6: 20…Lk. 1: 17) – Through the veil (Heb. 10: 19 -22) • God cannot lie (Heb. 6: 18; Titus 1: 2… Heb. 7: 20 -22; 10: 11 -17)
THEREFORE… • Let us take hold of this hope (Heb. 6: 18) and never let go (Heb. 3: 6; 6: 11; 10: 23) • Let us take refuge in God (Heb. 6: 18) • Though we suffer, let us imitate the diligence of the great men of faith (Heb. 6: 11 -12).
