Fats • • Major source of long-term energy Develops nervous system helps absorb vitamins Three Types ‒ Saturated ‒ Trans – Unsaturated (bad heart disease ) (worst heart disease ) (good healthy heart) • Daily Amount= 30 % • Sources ‒ Butter, cheese, olive oil, peanut butter, fried foods etc…

Protein • Builds and maintains body tissues • 2 types – Complete (containing 9 amino acids) – Incomplete (lacking one or more amino acids) • • Muscles and organs made up of proteins Makes haemoglobin (cells carrying oxygen) Daily amount= 10% Sources ‒ beef, poultry, fish, eggs, nuts, etc…

Vitamins • Substances eaten that boost our bodies • Two Types – Fat Soluble – Water Soluble • Fat soluble stored in fat tissues & liver • Daily intake depends on which vitamins (K, D, C, etc…) • Vitamins are in these foods – beef, poultry, nuts, citrus fruit etc…

Minerals • Boost immune system and support growth • 2 types – Macro (calcium, sodium, etc…) – Trace (chromium, copper, etc…) • Inorganic elements coming from soil and water • Help cells and organs do specific jobs • Sources – Salt, red meat, nuts, cocoa, etc…

Fibre • helps clean intestines by moving bowel movements • 2 types – Soluble (dissolves water) – Un-soluble (doesn’t dissolve water) • Boosts immune system • Slows absorption of sugar • Sources – Cereals, peas, artichokes, etc…

Water Two parts hydrogen, one part oxygen Makes up over half your body weight If not enough you can become dehydrated Dehydration cause sickness and slow reflexes • Cells depend on water to survive • Cant live without for over 3 days • •
