Homework: What to bring to school: Please make sure that you have the following things with you in school each day: q Bottle of water q PE kit q Coat q School reading book q Reading/homework diary Our PE days will be Monday and Tuesday however your child in required to have their PE kit in school every day as per school policy. Spellings: Spelling lists will be handed out every Monday and you will be tested on them the following Friday. You must learn your spellings so make s sure that you have plenty of t time set aside to practise k them. I hope you have all had a fantastic summer! We have got a very busy year ahead of us full of exciting topics, trips and lots of hard work! I know that you will all put in maximum effort and I am really looking forward to working with you. Miss Owens Homework will be sent home on a Friday and is due in the following Friday. If you do not hand in your homework, and we don’t have a note from your parents to explain why, you will be expected to do it during playtime. Reading: This year, it is very important that you continue to read as much as possible, both at school and at home. Don’t forget to record your reading in your reading diary. Topic: Our topic this term is The Vikings. We will be covering the reasons Vikings came to Britain and how they have influenced our society today. We will also be making Viking shields and examining artefacts. What we will be learning: Science: English: Our main English lessons will be based around Viking sagas and ‘The Last Viking’ by Terry Deary. We will explore various genres of writing, choosing our vocabulary very carefully to really hook the reader in. Our Science topics this term will be Sound, where we will explore how sounds are made and can be changed. Our second topic will look at electricity and how electricity is made as well as what conducts electricity and why. Autumn term 2019 Maths: This term, we will be covering the following topics in numeracy: ü Number and place value ü Addition and subtraction ü Perimeter and area ü Multiplication and division We will also have time each week to practice mental maths, multiplication tables and general arithmetic skills. Computing: We will add to our coding skills, using different programs to create our own apps and games. ICT will also be integrated into many of our other lessons, using the Internet effectively yo research a range of topics.
