Keep in Mind… • Formatting: – This is a practice course designed to prepare you to begin working as a social worker. – Homework/Assignments are an example of how you present your work professionally. – Please represent yourself well and turn in documents that meet all requirements per assignment guidelines and rubric. – APA (when citing), Spell Check, Double Space, Organization/Layout

Assignment Details • Chapters 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 are outlined in the following slides. • Please answer all parts of the question. • Points are most frequently lost due to formatting (see previous slide and also consider the importance of restating the question), providing context, failure to critically analyze and being able to relate examples provided (personal insight) to practice skill examined in the book.

Chapter 9 Turn in Tuesday March 18 th • 9. 4 Describe a problem in your life (current or past). Put yourself in the role of social worker, write five open ended questions that would help the social worker gain understanding. Write out five and explain why you chose each one of them. • 9. 5 • 9. 6 Describe a long term stressful situation. Identify ways you knew the person was under stress (at least 3) Write a reflecting comment and 5 open ended questions Describe a person you feel is genuine, this can be done by identifying qualities in that person that match what the book describes as genuine or you can add your own from your personal definition, write at least 3. Do the same thing for someone who is not genuine.

Chapter 10 Turn in Tuesday March 18 th • 10. 1: Write out each statement, provide a reflection statement and two follow up questions for each statement. Please format clearly so that reflection statement and two follow up questions are clearly identifiable. • 10. 6: Write down five (5) specific observations you made (provide context) when someone demonstrated respect and when someone was not respectful ( five of each). Perhaps provide your definition of respect from previous homework/contrast with book?

Chapter 11 Turn in Thursday March 20 th 11. 1: Write out each stage of change and match statement in book Write out a change you have experienced and identify stages of change you went through Discuss current problem or issue; identify stage of change you are currently in and what you would need to do to move to next stage. 11. 4 Identify self-efficacy score and provide explanation. Compare score you give yourself to a self-efficacy score you would give yourself in a college calculus course (or a course you find difficult) List five ways your belief in yourself affects your behavior 11. 5 Describe a time you thought you wanted to change a habit (identify habit) Explain circumstances/factors behind motivation to change habit What worked and what did not? What limited your motivation, energy enthusiasm… 11. 9 Describe a time where you had a problem (identify problem) that you felt you could fix Describe your feelings at that time (were you confident, hopeful? ) Did your feelings of hope factor into your ability to solve the problem? Describe experience Would your hope/confidence improved if you talked to a friend who had experienced a similar situation? How did that impact your level of hope?

Chapter 12 th Turn in Tuesday March 25 12. 1: Describe a time you or some one you know experienced a crisis What helped the most in resolving the situation? How did others help? What happened after the crisis? What unresolved crises from your life might hinder your ability to help a client in the same situation? 12. 3 Identify a time when you to tried to help someone who was resistant to change (what was the situation, who did and said what? ) Apply to example about car (write out statement and your response) 12. 4 Identify and describe three examples 12. 5 Write out four statements and write four responses 12. 8 Identify and describe a situation Break into smaller parts Explain process/what you experienced when breaking down into parts

Write down how you feel about the goal (why is it unattainable? ) Did you achieve your goal? This feedback will be important to success on your final two assignments. Every effort will be made to allow time for questions on the day it is returned.
