Year 3 Maths 12. 11. 20
Yesterday, we looked at missing numbers. We used our times tables knowledge to work out the missing numbers. Let us warm up our brains by doing just that……. • Click on the link below or cut and paste it into the browser on your device. • *Click on times tables • *Click on ‘Hit the question’ ****This will make you think**** • *2 x, 4 x, 5 x, 10 x • https: //www. topmarks. co. uk/maths-games/hit-the-button
Was that harder? Why? So let us have a recap of the learning so far this week. • we have looked at our times tables (2 x, 4 x, 5 x, 10 x) • 2 x 5 = 10 5 x 2 = 10 commutative law (multiply numbers in any order) If we know these facts we can: • draw an array to show the number sentence (picture) • find a missing number: ? X 5 = 10 • Work out the question if the answer is given
We are ready to use all of this knowledge to solve a problem. How many different arrays can you make with 8 counters? Write a multiplication number sentence to match each array. Here is how you can solve this problem…. I have used 8 counters to make my arrays. 1 x 8=8 4 x 2=8 8 x 1=8 2 x 4=8 ***Top tip for today: Remember an array is always drawn as a square or a rectangle. So position your objects carefully.
How many different arrays can you make with 10 counters? Write a multiplication number sentence to match each array. ***Top tip for today: Remember an array is always drawn as a square or a rectangle. So position your objects carefully. If you do not have small objects to use, draw dots – but keep them neatly in rows (they need to be in a square or rectangle shape)
Choose 2 problems from below that will challenge you. Remember to draw/make the arrays and write the number sentences. How many different arrays can you make with 16 counters? Write a multiplication number sentence to match each array. How many different arrays can you make with 20 counters? Write a multiplication number sentence to match each array. How many different arrays can you make with 24 counters? Write a multiplication number sentence to match each array. How many different arrays can you make with 30 counters? Write a multiplication number sentence to match each array. ***Top tip for today: Remember an array is always drawn as a square or a rectangle. So position your objects carefully. If you draw dots – keep them neat in rows (they need to be in a square or rectangle shape)
