Auschwitz-Birkenau Auschwitz-birkenau was a S. S. controlled camp where nothing wasted. This camp was run as an efficient machine; in its few years of operation, they “processed” millions. Auschwitz-birkenau were two different camps. Auschwitz was the concentration camp and Birkenau was the death camp. The other area was for the barracks, which held more Soviet prisoners than the Jews. Even though Jews all over Europe were being sent there. The ones who entered Auschwitz never saw inside the huts, because they were killed quickly. Auschwitz_Lawtion. Death Marches At the end of the war, Germany’s military force was collapsing and the allies were closing in, so the Nazi’s had to think of something to do with all of the prisoners. They frantically moved prisoners out of the camps in the front and took them inside Germany to the slave labor camps. The Jews were taken by train, and then on foot. They had to walk long distances in the freezing cold with close to nothing food and water. With barely any rest either, they had to keep up or they were shot. The largest marches were in the winter 1944 -1945. 60, 000 prisoners marched to Auschwitz, which was 35 miles away. one in four died on the way. Tell. Them. We. Remember_Bachrach. Susan_New. York, N. Kristallnacht stands for “night of the broken glass”. This event was a pogrom (a series of coordinated attacks) against Jews throughout Nazi Germany and parts of Austria. The attack happened 9 -10 of November, by SA Paramilitary Civilians. The reason they called it Kristallnacht was because the attacks left broken window glass from Jewowned shops, building, houses, etc. About 91 Jews were killed, leaving 30, 000 to be arrested and sent to concentration camps. Jew homes, schools, and hospitals were ransacked and demolished. The. Holocaust_Helen. Strahinich_Springfield, NJ_Enslow. Pu blishers.
