Do you already play an instrument? l How wonderful! l Playing a musical instrument is fun and quite rewarding! l We hope you’ll decide to continue band at Holley Navarre MS with Mr. Dyke.
What about school instruments? l Holley Navarre MS has several instruments, especially the very expensive ones including French Horns, Bass Clarinets, Baritones and Tubas. Students playing these instruments pay a small fair share. l Instruments including Flutes, Clarinets, Saxophones, Trumpets and Trombones will need to be rented from a music store.
Is renting an instrument expensive? l Other than using a school instrument, renting an instrument from a music store is the best way to go! l Most music stores offer repair contracts so if anything happens to the instrument, damage or theft, the instrument is repaired or replaced, no extra charge l If your child decides they are not suited for band, then simply return the instrument to the music store l If your child decides band is for them, then the rental money you have paid to the music store applies toward purchasing a new instrument l Brochures offered from area music stores will be given to the students.
Parents Beware! l Legally, Mr. Dyke is not allowed to tell you where you can or should buy a musical instrument l Many area instrument repair shops can NOT repair some of the more inexpensive instruments you can purchase in department stores l Parts are unavailable for MOST of these instruments. This is especially important – Parts are not available! l If the instrument gets broken, you have to throw it away ($100 -$250 – every time your child drops or damages the instrument) l Please consider the music stores! l Also, do not rule out buying a used instrument – Call Mr. Dyke, he will be glad to help with any questions concerning a used instrument
Let’s show off on our instruments! l Fall/Holiday Concert l Solo & Ensemble l Spring Concert l More TBA
