Top Line Messages Ø HIV/AIDS implementation science has been supported across NIH since prevention

Top Line Messages Ø HIV/AIDS implementation science has been supported across NIH since prevention and treatment tools have been available Ø A wide range of dissemination and implementation research has been solicited through FOAs from many ICs. Ø Partnering with implementing agencies (e. g. , CDC, PEPFAR) has been critical, and continues to expand. Ø Moving forward, important to triage and target highest priorities, coordinate efforts, and seek efficiencies

A (partial) Timeline for NIH-funded HIV/AIDS Implementation Science Ø Early 2000 s, research funded

A (partial) Timeline for NIH-funded HIV/AIDS Implementation Science Ø Early 2000 s, research funded in dissemination and implementation science focused on evidence-based prevention interventions Ø NIMH published a PA in 2006 focused on D&I research in collaboration with the CDC’s DEBI project (Diffusion of Effective Behavioral Intervention) Ø NIMH standing FOA (revised and updated every three years) that has evolved with the availability of further prevention and treatment advances. Ø Trans-NIH Implementation Science Workgroup, led by NCI Ø 2009 OAR and Pangaea Global AIDS Foundation Consultation on Implementation Science at IAS, Capetown. Ø PEPFAR workgroup, led by Melanie Bacon (NIAID), including initiatives in implementation science and most recently, in HOP process Ø NIH/PEPFAR RFAs and PAs, starting in 2011, NIAID-led. Ø NIDA/PEPFAR RFA in 2012 Ø NICHD/PEPFAR RFA in 2012 for PMTCT Implementation Science 6

A (partial) Timeline for NIH-funded HIV/AIDS Implementation Science Ø CFAR, CDC, and Public Health Department collaboration on research efforts to leverage and support the ECHPP efforts (2013 -2016) Ø NIMH/NIAID 2013 priority-setting meeting Ø NIMH 2016 supplements “HIV Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (Pr. EP) Implementation Science in CDC-funded Public Health Demonstration Projects (Admin Supp)” PA-16 -199 Ø NIMH standing FOA revised and published in January 2017: “Targeted Implementation Science to Achieve 90/90/90 Goals for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Treatment (R 01)” Ø NIMH Initiatives with PEPFAR for Pr. EP Implementation Science and Mental Health Screening and Treatment in HIV/AIDS Care Settings 7
