• Native Americans were the first people to live in North America. • They lived all over America.
• They knew how to find food, they knew how to survive, they hunted animals for food and used the skins for clothing.
They used tools and sticks to hunt animals
Powhatan Tribe • They were a Native American tribe used trees to build their homes. • First, they bent the trees, and tied the together. • Then they covered the trees with big pieces of tree bark. • The people cooked on fired inside their homes.

People from Europe decided to come to North America and start colonies
What is a colony? • A colony is a place that is ruled by another country. • The European countries wanted to use the resources of North America. • Settlers began travelling across the ocean (Atlantic Ocean) to make new homes in North America.

• Then, the settlers found that life was different from what they were used to. • They had to build their own homes, grow their own food, and make own furniture and clothing. • Not everyone knew how to do this!

Help from the Native Americans! • The settlers learned from the Native Americans where to hunt, fish and get food. • They also learned how to grow new kinds of crops and build shelters. • Native Americans helped the settlers survive in this new place!
