1500 The first pinhole camera (Camera Obscura) is invented by Alhazen.
1839 The French Academy of Sciences introduces the Daguerreotype Camera, now named the world’s most expensive camera.
1840 Alexander Wolcott is issued the first American patent for his camera.
1859 Thomas Sutton patented the panoramic camera.
1861 The stereoscope viewer is invented by Oliver Wendell Holmes.
1888 The patent for the Kodak roll-film camera is issued to George Eastman.
1900 The Brownie- the first mass-marketed camera- was invented by George Eastman.
1900 The Raisecamera (travel camera) was invented. Most desirable thing for landscape photographers because it was light weight and had small dimensions.
1913/1914 Oskar Barnack invented the first 35 mm still camera (candid camera). It became known as the standard for all film camera.
1948 The Polaroid camera was invented by Edwin Land, where you could take a picture and print it out in about one minute.
1860 An extreme depth underwater camera is invented by EG&G for the U. S. Navy.
1978 The first point-andshoot, autofocus camera is introduced by Konica.

1986 The disposable camera (single-use camera) is introduced by Fuji.
1994 -1996 The first cameras that worked with a home computer via serial cable. The cameras were the Apple Quick Take 100, the Kodak DC 40, the Casio QV-11, and Sony’s Cyber-Shot Digital Still Camera.
2000 Japane Sharp introduced the world’s first camera phone.
2005 The Canon EOS 5 D is introduced.
