E-mail • Early email was just a small advance on what we know these days. • The first email system of this type was MAILBOX, used at Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1965. • You could only send it to one person at a time. • Then one-to-many messaging could send the same email to multiple people
Instant Messaging • The process of sending real time messages from one person to another. • It can be between two or more people using a specific program such as Yahoo messenger or Windows Live messenger • It became more widespread in he 1990 s with messengers like AOL.
Chat Rooms • An area on the internet where groups of people come together to communicate. • A user types a message that is seen by all users online in the same “room. ” • Users can see a list all other users online.
Social Networking • Allows members to reconnect with old friends, make new friends and come together with members of similar interest. • A user creates a profile and is granted access to the site where he can view other user’s profiles and connect with them. • Popular sites include Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter.
