First “Computer” • First computer was the abacus or a counting frame was used to help tellers with counting stuff or currency. • Different cultures used the abacus for diriment uses such as the Japanese used it for faster calculation in primary schools and nothing else

First Mechanical Computer • Called the Babbage’s engine ran on punch cards and similarly used to todays computers. Both were sparks to start the electromechanical age. • Both were used for different things but couldn’t find out what for.

First Electromechanical Computer • Called the mark 1 it was built using clutches, relays, rotating shafts, and switches with 100 ds of km of wiring used. Weighing in at 10, 000 lbs. • Spanning in at 51 feet, eight feet high, and two feet deep.

First Programming Software • Early high-level running program called Plankalku. I for the early German computer in 1943. • Designed by Konrad Zuse in 1939. • The program was bug filled and really never implemented until 1999 -2000.

First Computer Software • Designed by Alan Turing in 1935 later used in everyday computers in 1946. • Computer Science and Computer Engineering were founded at this time. • One was used for binary and other was used for instructions.

Legal Issues with Hardware • Software sold to multiple customers with bundled hardware by original equipment manufactures (OEM) • Early software started to be pirated and commercial people were unhappy.
