Early animation devices The first animation device was the praxinoscope invented in 1890 by created by Charles-Émile Reynaud This is an image of the praxinoscope it would show a moving image using loops of 12 pictures. It would display a moving horse On October 28, 1892 at. Musée Grévin in Paris, revealed animations consisting of loops of about 500 frames using his Théâtre Optique system it is similar to the modern projection system
hand drawn animation • The first animated work on standard picture film was Humorous Phases of Funny Faces 1906 by J. Stuart Blackton. It features a cartoonist drawing faces on a chalkboard, and the faces apparently coming to life. • Fantasmagorie, by the French director Émile Cohl It was screened for the first time on August 17, 1908. • These animations where drawn on a black board a picture was taken the drawing was rubbed out and a slightly different image was drawn of the next picture. • This was done until enough images are taken to create a animation in the case of these animations a full feature film.
Cel animation • Cel animation consthe characters are drawn on cels and laid over a static background drawing this means only the character have to be changed • Some examples of these are some of the Disney animations
Flip book animation • Flip book animation became popular at the end of the 19 th century • Tom and jerry, woody woodpecker where sold in flip book form in the 1920 s • Flip books consisted of drawings that are slight different stakes. When the drawings are flipped they come to life as an optical elusion
Computer generated animation • Toy story was the first computer generated feature film. Before toy story all animated films used the cel technique. • Animation software is used to create computer generated animation • Films such as terminator 2 used computer generated animation before toy story, But not for the whole film.
