Extended Caption: This flyer announces a march in Tennessee sponsored by Martin Luther King Jr. and the Community On the Move for Equality. The march was scheduled for Friday, March 22, 1968 for Memphis to “learn that it must be a city for all people”. Marching was a non-violent form of protest that Martin Luther King Jr. used in his movement for racial equality in the United States during the 1960 s.

Extended Caption: This photograph was taken just minutes after a second hijacked plane collided with the Twin Towers in New York City on September 11, 2001. The image was broadcast around the world. Americans had not experienced a direct attack of this magnitude on their homeland since 1941. The destructive nature of the attack rallied many Americans and increased a sense of nationalism.

Extended Caption: The Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776 by delegates from the Continental Congress. A copy was sent to King George in England notifying him that his colonies were demanding independence. The primary author of the document was Thomas Jefferson who was inspired by enlightenment thinkers and their idea that all men were born with natural rights such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
