Underhand Serve • The arm must be moving in an upward arc and the paddle head shall be below the wrist when it strikes the ball • The serve must be made with an underhand stroke so that contact with the ball is made below waist level
Forehand/Backhand • Forehand groundstroke: – Hitting the ball after one bounce with your dominant hand. • Backhand groundstroke: – Hitting the ball after one bounce with your non-dominant hand.
Overhead Smash/Slam • A hard, overhand shot usually resulting from an opponent’s lob, high return, or high bounce
Lob & Volley • Lob: – A shot that returns the ball as high and deep as possible, forcing the opposing side back to the baseline. • Volley: – Hitting the ball in the air, during a rally, before the ball has a chance to bounce onto the court.

Service Rules Continued… • Service Faults – Missed hit – Touches permanent object – Ball touches partner or self – Lands on non-volley line – Hits net and lands on non -volley line or in zone – Lands outside service court – Hits net and lands outside service court • Service Lets – Touches net, strap, or band, and still lands in service court – Served when receiver is not ready – Ball hits net and strikes receiver or receiver’s partner – Time out due to object in playing area
Service Sequence Rules • Singles – Service starts in right hand court – Alternate from right to left to right… – Serve crosscourt • Doubles – Service starts in righthand court – Serve crosscourt – Team serving initial serve of game can commit only 1 fault – Receiver is only player who can return – Receiving team does not alternate positions.
