How Will It Work? Online learning will begin Tuesday, March 31 st as an

How Will It Work? Online learning will begin Tuesday, March 31 st as an A Day. On each A Day, all teachers will upload the lesson on the HUB for A Day classes and B Day classes by 8: 30 a. m. Teachers will offer LIVE Office Hours in TEAMS to offer additional support. Teachers will lead students through guided practice of the new materials and answer questions. These are offered on a set schedule by course, and recorded for later viewing. All independent assignments for the two-day instructional cycle (A DAY and B Day) will be due by 11: 59 p. m. on the B Day. Because the submission of the assignment serves as your “attendance” we cannot accept late assignments. What does that mean? You have an instructional cycle of 39. 5 hours. The instructional cycle for your 8 period schedule that starts on the A Day at 8: 30 AM and ends on the B Day at midnight.

Critical Principles • Teachers are identifying the critical objectives for each class that still need to be taught and will focus on the most important objectives for core classes. • Core-enrichment classes are exploring unique learning opportunities. • Teachers are being mindful that this may be a time when less is more. • Students are not expected to be in front of the computer from 8: 30 AM – 4: 00 PM. • Students have flexibility in when and the order in which they do coursework within the two-day instructional cycle.

Update on IB Diploma • Students will still be awarded the IB Diploma or IB Course based on the “standard of work” which will incorporate the internal assessment for the class and any external assessments for the class. • What are external assessments? TOK essay, Extended Essay, English written assignments and the various arts assessments for students who are taking an IB class for an art area. No IB Exams will be administered during this exam period. SENIORS: Extended Essay, TOK Essay and English Written Assignment are due NOW if the haven’t been submitted. Update on STAAR End-of-course Exams Students will not take STAAR EOC Exams this year. • A student who is currently enrolled in a course that is attached to a STAAR EOC exam will be awarded credit based on the course grades with adequate attendance, and STAAR for that course will not be a graduation requirement. • Students who previously passed a course but did not pass the associated STAAR exam will be able to meet graduation requirements with the recommendation of the Individual Graduation Committee (IGC).

Update on GRAD Lab • The District has determined that all assessments that were previously required to be done in person, on paper, will not be required during the period of online instruction. • Students will continue to complete the online portion of the course. • When the course is complete, email Mr. Lozano so that he can refer it to the assigned teacher to review the work and issue credit for the course. Courses on the schedule listed as a “ 99” are completed through GRAD LAB as an online course. These are required for graduation. • As you finish one GRAD LAB course you may contact Mr. Lozano to have another course opened at MLOZAN 10@houstonisd. org

Review your gradespeed account and complete all missing work for the Grading Cycle 5. You will receive a follow-up email to provide you with contact information for several health, safety and academic resources. The last day of the grading cycle is April 3. NOTE – We must reach all Lamar families by phone or email this week. If you have not received a call before Wednesday at 8: 00 p. m. please send an email with your contact information to lamarhstexanshisd@gmail. com Report Cards will be generated and available on Parent Student Connect on April 7. Cancellations The District has cancelled all events through the end of April. A decision has not been made about events scheduled for May, including graduation in June. Annual Lamar FFA Livestock Show has been canceled. Ms. Infante will be providing more information to FFA members. Refunds – The District is working on a system for us to issue refunds to families who paid for events like the JROTC Military Ball and prom.

Things to Watch For On April 6 th the Superintendent will reevaluate the closure of school campuses. Academic Deans will be contacting parents and students to schedule Student Led Conferences. We will continue to do course selection for current students for next year during the conferences. Look for information on our website for new student enrollment, registration and course selection for new students for the 2020 -2021 school year.
