Pre-employment Checklist • Ensure the checklist covers all the procedures in the order they are administered.
City Application • A two to four page application that is required to be completed by your municipality.
Departmental Questionnaire • This questionnaire gives you necessary information for the background investigation. • All releases should be included in this document.
Criminal History Check • This can be completed easily through ACJIC. • Do not be surprised at the results on some applicants!
Traffic History Check • A traffic history check can be done quickly through ACJIC. • Look for serious traffic offenses and patterns.
Physical Agility/Ability Test • Ensure the physical agility and ability test match the requirements of APOSTC.
Written Exam • Use a validated and job related written test. • Include the 3 R’s
Oral Interview Board • Several heads are better than one. • Structure your questions to fit the interview. • Select the proper people for the interview board.
Employment Credit History • Very important and can be done quickly through the internet. • It will give you a wealth of background information.
Polygraph Test • Excellent tool to uncover hidden information. • Prevents you from hiring someone with active or past criminal activity.
Background Investigation • Most important part of the process. • Ensure the applicant checks out well prior to conditional offer of employment.
Conditional Offer Of Employment
Psychological Evaluation Worth time and expense. Used to rule out even more than rule in applicants. Helps to determine overall suitability. Minimizes exposure to liability in negligent hiring.
Pre-employment Physical Exam • Complete on all applicants prior to hiring.
Drug Screen • Can be performed along with the physical exam. • Do not offer employment until you get the drug screen results back!
