������� conjunct characters • We will follow the book looking at the ways in which characters can take forms which show that they are not followed by the inherent ‘a’ sound in a Hindi consonant. • We will look at the different varieties. • You don’t have to remember them all! • You just need to see how the most common conjunct characters look like

Fourth group: rounded characters: � ṭa �ṭha �ḍha �da and �ha • Can pile on top of each other ������ or ������ciṭṭhī nf. letter. ������ or ������chuṭṭī nf. holiday. ����� or ����� laḍḍū nm. laddu ����� or ����� kaddū nm. pumpkin • �ha characters combine inside (rare) ����� or च हन cihn बर हमण brāhmaṇ nm. Brahman. nm. sign.
Exceptions • Have distinct shapes when combined, for instance: �� +� k+ṣa � �� +� � k+ra � � �� +� � t+ra �������nf. parīkṣā examination ������ nf. action, verb kriyā ����� mitr nm. / nf. friend
