Main Ideas • • • What Colleges are looking for…. What about AP? Standard vs Scholars Diploma Sample Schedules for 10 th and 11 th grade What’s up with my ensemble? Questions?
What Colleges are looking for…. • All around academic – music is academic at the high school • Extra activities/involved in everything • Focused and excelling in 1 area • Well Rounded • Something that sets you apart from the mass • Different colleges = different requirements – Colleges – Majors
What about AP? • What’s involved with an AP course – Time commitment – Test • College Credit…. . MAYBE • Use peers to help decided which AP classes to take and which order to take classes in to optimize AP availability in schedule
Standard Diploma vs. Scholars Diploma Things needed for Scholars Diploma • GPA of 3. 4 or higher • 3 AP Classes • 1 extra science class – Standard is 3 credits and scholars requires 4 so take 1 science class per year (9 th grade counts) • 2 credits of World Language – 1 credit carries over from 9 th grade
Example for an 11 th grade schedule Students can take 3 AP classes and a music class using this schedule Lang
Example for an 11 th grade schedule Students can take 5 AP classes and a music class using this schedule Lang
