Course structure n n n Every course will be blocked daily for one semester, except as follows: *Year-long (every other day) Offered both blocked and year-long All AP classes at Reagan Algebra 1 All arts classes Geometry All foreign languages Algebra 2 Newspaper/Yearbook AFM/ Discrete / Pre-Calculus
Our Process: n This week we start registration. We will meet with students in small groups (through math classes). n n Disseminate Registration Handbooks Discuss Process Answer questions Explain course placement One-on-one meetings through math classes n Course Placement/Recommendations n n n Objectively make placement based on test scores and grades Also provide teacher recommendations Parents have “choice” Teachers as a resource – do the homework

Future-Ready Core Course of Study n n n 4 English 4 math 3 social studies 4 science 2 PE/Health/LMS n 2 electives (electives must be any combination of Career Technical Education, Arts Education or Second Language) n 2 additional electives ( from CTE, JROTC, Arts Education or any other subject area) n Total = 21 credits
Future-Ready Core English n English I, III, and IV required n Levels include regular, honors, seminar, and/or AP
Future-Ready Core Math Four mathematics credits are required n Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II or Integrated Math I, III n And a fourth math course to be aligned with the student's after high school plans (e. g. college or work). n Many options exist. Please talk to your teachers and counselors. n

Second or Foreign Language n Students seeking to satisfy UNC System admission requirements must complete two units of a second language. n Second Language offerings include, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Latin, and Spanish.
Electives n Students must complete four elective credits to satisfy WS/FCS graduation requirements. n 2 electives must be any combination of Career Technical Education, Arts Education or Second Language and 2 additional electives (from CTE, JROTC, Arts Education or any other subject area). n

ADVANCED PLACEMENT IS DIFFICULT Advanced Placement Mature Self-motivated Independent/divergent thinker Excellent critical analysis skills Mastered note taking Extensive reading & outside assignments – may be over 30 pages per day. Strong reading comprehension Assignments cover large chucks of material Excellent writing skills Must take the AP exam or accept a grade below earned grade and will not receive AP points toward weighted GPA. q q Can you read 30 pages a night and outline a chapter? Do you have the discipline to keep up with outside reading? Are you prepared to spend up to two hours on one course? Can you answer lengthy essay questions on tests? 16
