HIGH SCHOOL 101 Discipline

WELCOME AR has a set of consequences regarding discipline that are used accordingly. I. S. S. is a daylong behavior correctional class meant to provide disciplinary action for students that violate AR rules. It is recommended that you read the student and district handbooks regarding disciplinary actions.

CONSEQUENCES 1. Verbal warning 2. Lunch detention 3. ISS – The student remains in ISS for an entire day and completes assignments in that room. 4. OSS 5. Parking privileges suspended –The first time, parking is revoked for 30 days. The second time, it is revoked for the entire year. 6. Expulsion Hearing 7. Givhans Alternative Program (GAP) – GAP is the alternative school within Dorchester District 2.

CLASSROOM DISCIPLINE Teachers have their own sets of classroom rules that they will enforce when necessary. Rules may vary by teacher. Failure to comply will lead to more serious disciplinary action. Teachers, please discuss your classroom rules.

HIGH SCHOOL 101 DRESS CODE ARHS DRESS CODE

SHORTS AND DRESSES Shorts and dresses are acceptable to wear as long as they are finger tip length. If they are not, you will be asked to change or sent to ISS.

HATS, SUNGLASSES, BANDANAS, ETC. • Hats, bandanas, or anything of that nature may NOT be worn in the building. • The hoods of hooded sweatshirts will NOT be worn in the building. • Any type of head covering is NOTto be worn by girls or boys. • Sunglasses may NOT be worn in the building, with the exception of RX sunglasses • If there is a medical reason for a student to wear one of the above, a letter from a physician will need to be provided to the principal. • Bandanas will not be worn on any part of the body.

ATTIRE THAT ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE • Crop tops and leggings are NOT appropriate for school and therefore should not be worn. • If you are wearing leggings the top over it must be the appropriate fingertip length. Remember leggings are NOT pants. • Sagging is NOT acceptable. Please wear your pants on your waist. We do not want to see your shorts!

CELL PHONE USE When you can use it: Prior to 8: 55 During class exchanges During ILT After 3: 55, but not if you are in an after-school class or detention

PROCEDURES DURING CLASS CHANGES No headphones! We do not even want to see them! No phone calls. No texting and walking.

RULES IN CLASS 15 No devices are allowed out in class unless the teacher gives permission. If devices are seen out in class, they will be confiscated. Devices need to be turned off and in your book bag during class time.

DEVICES CANNOT BE USED FOR… 16 • Recording video • Possessing, Viewing, Taking, or Sending Pictures • Posting anything to social media • Video or audio information involving sexual, violent, derogatory, or threatening content on school grounds, school events, or on school buses • Bullying, harassing, or teasing of any type

VIDEOS AND SOCIAL MEDIA Capturing video, audio, or photos of other people at Ashley Ridge is not allowed. Posting photos, videos, or audio recordings of others taken in Ashley Ridge will result in disciplinary consequences.

PHONE AND INTERNET SAFETY Do not post personal information online (name, age, birth date, address, telephone number, or school name). This information can be used by others to find out where you and your family live. Do not post your picture or pictures of your family online – they can be copied or changed or used to find you.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES Devices must be powered off during class (anything seen can be confiscated) YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SAFETY AND SECURITY OF YOUR DEVICE. THE SCHOOL IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LOST OR STOLEN DEVICE.

CONSEQUENCES & FEES The first time your phone is confiscated, your parent has to come pick it up in the front office for a fee of $25. If you continue getting your phone taken, you could face OSS and loss of extracurricular activities. Refusal to turn over an electronic device will result in Out of School Suspension and a phone obligation of $25.

KNOW YOUR TEACHERS Electronic policies may vary depending upon teacher preference. Be sure you know what your teacher does and does not allow in his or her classroom.
