Why a New Process? • In order to conserve Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), while still preserving the integrity of the second RN verification and signature of a High Risk Medication, an alternative workflow has been created , for High Risk Medication administration • If you are at PMC, JFK, RBMC, RMC, JSUMC, OMC, SOMC your process will be utilizing the Rover device that has been designated on your unit. • If you are at HUMC your process will be utilizing a designated desk top computer at your nurses station

Isolation Rover Workflow • • Obtain the designated Isolation Rover for your unit. Open

Isolation Rover Workflow • • Obtain the designated Isolation Rover for your unit. Open up MAR for patient Scan MEDICATIONS FIRST outside the patient’s room using the Rover device Obtain dual signoff, when prompted outside patients room with second RN Rover will prompt the nurse administering the medication to scan the patient. The nurse then dons PPE and enters the patient’s room, scans the patient, and finishes the administration documentation.

Isolation Rover Workflow • The scan patient last workflow for high risk dual sign medications is specific to the Isolation Rover device, not medication or patient. • The designated Isolation Rover should NOT be utilized for medication administration for other patients. • Remember to sanitize the Isolation Rover device with wipes and observe dry time prior to docking.

Station Workflow • The nurse opens the MAR within Epic on the designated Isolation Workstation. • The nurse will be prompted to SCAN THE MEDICATIONS FIRST. • The system will check for interactions and Best Practice Advisories cumulative dose warnings, and linked order notifications. • The nurse completes the Medication Administration window. A Validate button appears. • The nurse clicks Validate to pend the administration, the system checks the details and displays warnings as appropriate. • The Dual Signoff Summary window appears and the second clinician complete their dual signoff, outside the patients room at the desk top computer. The nurse then dons PPE and goes to the bedside with Medication Administration Cart scans the patient.

Reminders • Always use appropriate PPE. • Ensure Medication Administration Cart is at least 6 feet from the bedside if it enters the room. • Be sure to wipe Medication Administration Cart after use in room with PDI/Sani wipes. • Always observe appropriate dry time on PDI/Sani wipes. • If the isolation device is used for any medication administration the scan patient last workflow will need to be followed
