Higgs Group Organization John Hobbs Stony Brook 1
Higgs Group: Organization John Hobbs, Stony Brook 1. Short term goals, Spring/Summer 2002 2. Initial subgroup organization 3. Representation in other groups 4. Comments Feel free to comment as I go along… 7/26/2001 Higgs group, John Hobbs
Goals for PUBLIC presentations: S ‘ 02 • Pick 3 basic topologies – W(®ln)+jets – Z(®ll)+jets – Z ®bb • What will we have? – Basic selections with event distributions overlaid with Monte Carlo – Both tagged and untagged samples – Event rate comparisons? Physics cross sections? 7/26/2001 Higgs group, John Hobbs 2
Subgroup Organization • Plan to organize along physics final states: – Single lepton + ET: WH, tt. H – Multi-lepton: ZH, WH(H®WW) – ET + jets: ZH, H® tt – Jets: bb. H (Green = 1 st analyses) • Some are naturally forming (e. g. , jets) GOOD! • Others we will start soon • Students and post docs that sign up are responsible for getting the job done on a daily basis… § If you are busy now, think about waiting § Conveners will act as obstacle removers and advisors 7/26/2001 Higgs group, John Hobbs 3
Subgroup Organization, con’t • Common basic selections are a clear goal – same thresholds and h as much as is sensible – Object ID: § start with object ID groups’ definitions § are these right for us? Searches are different than precision measurement If not, must feed back into object ID groups • No choice is perfect; will be cross group issues – conveners job includes insuring a coherent effort – Potential cross group areas: Triggers, mass reconstruction, and, of course, others… 7/26/2001 Higgs group, John Hobbs 4
Topics & People • On D 0, students sign up for thesis topics – Confirmed by spokes/phys. coordinator • Post docs are more free agents • Based on initial Hi. T group list & recent discussion – Begun a table of people and topics – Topic list will be extended/modified with time – Talked with students’ advisors. Post docs; somewhat guess work (today) • With some concern for jumping the gun… 7/26/2001 Higgs group, John Hobbs 5
There are clearly topics not here; no one has talked with us… Also, some students have not yet chosen a topic… 7/26/2001 Higgs group, John Hobbs 6
Representation in other groups • D 0 Infrastructure groups – TB, Suyong Choi – ORB, Neeti Parashar • Object ID & MC – We will need 5+1 representatives. Attendance at meetings not limited to these – People working on a given channel should not wait around for ID’s. Work on this as part of analysis! 7/26/2001 Higgs group, John Hobbs 7
