Call to adventure ► Faced with invitation or challenge ► Initially refuses the call ► Lord Farquad sends fairytale creatures to swamp and Shrek doesn’t want them there

Assistance/Mentor ► Guide or mentor who helps hero on his journey (protect or point the way) ► Hero will also have allies/helpers who journey with him (sidekick) ► Donkey accompanies Shrek on his journey and overs sage advice

Departure/Crossing threshold ► Leaves ordinary world by crossing the threshold (known to unknown) ► Shrek leaves the swamp for the forest

Trials/Challenges ► Challenges or temptations that try to steer hero off course ► The dragon, his insecurity, dealing with donkey

Approach ► Hero faces biggest ordeal/greatest fear ► Realizes he loves Fiona when alone back at swamp but is afraid she won’t love him
