YOU CAN DO IT TOO n The idea for this presentation came alive when we first applied for the Business/Marketing Education Department of the Year Award

2005 -2006 NYS REGION 6 BUSINESS/MARKETING EDUCATION DEPT. OF THE YEAR WINNERS n n We set out to complete the application form and in doing so, created a business department 3 -ring binder full of data, documents, photos, correspondence, etc. It was from this process that our claim to fame was set in motion

BUSINESS & MARKETING EDUCATORS’ ASSOCIATION OF THE CAPITAL DISTRICT AWARDS DINNER n n Recognize our top senior business student not only for academic achievement, but also for his/her outstanding citizenship and positive attitude. An honor dinner was held at the Turf Inn in Albany on May 3, 2007. Cost of parent and teacher dinners was sponsored by Canajoharie FBLA. Awards night presentation of plaque Newspaper article with student photo was submitted.

AWARDS NIGHT n We use our schools End of Year Award Assembly to recognize an outstanding student in each one of our business courses as well as: n n n Most Dedicated Business Student Top Senior Business Student BMEA Outstanding Senior Business Student The Business and Marketing Honor Society of NYS Students are called to stage and receive certificates, medals, plaques, pins, and honor cords.

STUDENT INVOLVEMENT n Future Business Leaders of America n n n Faculty/Staff Appreciation Luncheon (75 guests) Wellness Day Program Greeters (70 presenters) Community Charity (fire victims, cancer patient) n Professional Attire Day n n n Students dress for the business world in professional attire on the last Wednesday of each month. They ‘walk the walk’ and are judged by their peers. Simulated office break time follows with refreshments.

STUDENT INVOLVEMENT Continued n Publisher’s Corner Newsletter n Monthly publication created by DTP students directed toward high school: n n n news sports puzzles birthdays contests club fundraisers calendar of events n School Store n In addition to school supplies and snacks: n n n Regent’s Review Books Graphing calculator rentals Yearbook sales n In exchange for this service, student staff members are given a discount on the purchase of their yearbook.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT n Garden Club n n Each year the local garden club has asked that the Desktop Publishing Students design their brochure for the June garden show. This becomes an actual graded assignment. n Defensive Driving Course n In conjunction with a representative of the National Safety Council DDC, the school store registers students, faculty and community members for this course.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Continued n Patriot Federal Bank n n Desktop Publishing students entered a community-wide advertising contest Grand prize winner from the DTP class was awarded a $100 savings bond as well as having their ad published in local newspapers
