schema: GUPPI ES!
Did you know… The guppy is one of the most popular types of aquarium tropical fish in the world as they are small, colorful and easier to keep than many other species of fish. The guppy usually lives 3 -5 years.
Guppy is named after Robert John Lechmere Guppy who discovered this fish in Trinidad in 1866.
There are nearly 300 different types of guppies throughout the world!
In the wild, guppies feed on organic matter, including algae, brine shrimp, diatoms, aquatic insect larvae and animal and plant remains and particles. Guppies are omnivores, meaning that they eat both plant and animal matter.
The guppy was brought to different countries as a way to slow down malaria. The guppy eats mosquito larvae before the mosquitos can fly. If they can’t fly it slows down the spread of malaria!
Male Guppy: very slender body grow up to 1 -1/8 inches colorful bigger, more elaborate tails Female Guppy: rounder and bigger grow up to 2 -1/8 inches pale gray or silver
Since guppies breed fairly easily and frequently, guppy owners should put their male and female guppies into two separate tanks. This avoids ending up with GALLONS OF GUPPIES in multiple tanks!
If this guppy was your pet, what would you name him?
Chapter 2 - Gallons of Guppies Every afternoon after school Ribsy waited for Henry under a fir tree in the corner of the school yard. Four days a week they ran home the shortest way, past the park, up the hill, and through the vacant lot. On Fridays, however, they walked home the long way round past the Rose City Drugstore, the Supermarket, the Ideal Barber Shop, and the Lucky Dog Pet Shop. At the pet store they stopped while Henry bought two pounds of horse meat from Mr. Pennycuff.
Henry liked to go to the pet store. The windows were full of puppies and kittens and, just before Easter, rabbits and baby chicks and ducks. Inside there was usually a parrot or monkey and once there had been a deodorized skunk. Henry thought it would be fun to have a skunk following him around, but when he found it cost $40 he gave up the idea…
