Henry Hudson • Henry Hudson was born around the 1500’s. He was looking for a shorter way to the Northeastern Passage. He had a wife named Katherine and together they had three sons named: Oliver, Richard and John. As a boy he enjoyed adventurous stories of explorers.

• He wanted to explore the Northeastern Passage because he wanted to find jewels and spices. On his first voyage he sailed on the Hopewell. The Hopewell left on April 19, 1671. The Hopewell and Henry’s crew was blocked by ice. On the Halfmoon they crossed the Atlantic Ocean in a month. The Halfmoon discovered the New. York Harbor. By spring of 1610 Hudson had a ship called the Discovery. The Discovery discovered Hudson Bay.

• On all the ships Hudson explored he did have some hardships. For example the ship got stopped and stuck by ice fields often and many men became sick and some died. On the Discovery crew members got mad at Hudson and put him, his son and other loyal crew members on a boat in the middle of a river.
