Paper cut-outs • When Mr. Matisse became very old he had trouble holding a paintbrush • So he decided to make images with scissors and paper • He made lots of pictures by cutting and pasting • Can you find an image like this in our art room?

The Paper Garden • The first thing that Mr. Matisse made after he became sick was a paper garden. • He would cut out the organic shapes of leaves and other plants. • Notice how not all these leave are real colors. He use “madeup” colors for all of his plants • He then glued these paper cut-outs all over his room so that he had an inside paper garden
