A noisy box is just a small box with a lid, you call it the noisy box and when you are introducing the new sound you say that all the sounds in the world are in the box! When you lift the lid the noise comes out and you say ‘j’, then get the children to say ‘j’ too! Teach - j • Hear it and say it – use the noisy box. Show your child the noisy box and when you open it say the sound ‘sh’ • Say it loud, say it quiet, say it to the ceiling, say it to the carpet. • See it and say it – write the phoneme ‘j’ on a piece of paper, say it like the gruffalo. • Say it and write it- use your magic finger to write it big, write it small, write it on the carpet. Write it on a whiteboard.
