Hello Don Class! Good Morning everyone and welcome to another week online. You may have noticed that your work looks a bit different this week! We are continuing to look at Scotland in our learning and Monday 25 th January is a celebration day in Scotland as it is the birthday of Robert Burns. You might try to find out more about him and his work this week and there also lots of other Scotland related activities for you to try over. Literacy Activities Our Literacy work this week focuses on the Famous Scot Robert Burns and one of his favourite poems. There is also a spelling grid that you can use and some reading ideas. Enjoy!
Robert Burns was born on 25 th January 1759 in Ayrshire, Scotland. He was a poet and song writer and is famous around the world. Burns Night is a celebration often held in Scotland on 25 th January. It celebrates the life and work of one of Scotland’s most famous sons One of his most famous songs is Auld Lang Syne, which is often sung at New Year and Burns Night. Can you find out some more information about Robert Burns?
Burns Night On Burns Night, many people have a traditional dinner called Burns Supper. This usually includes eating haggis, which is a traditional Scottish food. It is often served with neeps (swede) and tatties (potatoes). Poems written by Burns are often read aloud too.

Cooking – Scottish Oatcakes are a traditional Scottish biscuit that are especially tasty when eaten with some lovely cheese! Why don’t you try making some at home this week as part of our Scotland lessons?
Cooking – Scottish Oatcakes INGREDIENTS 75 g butter 100 g plain / all-purpose flour ½ teaspoon salt 225 g porridge/rolled oats Water WHAT YOU WILL ALSO NEED: Measuring scales/spoons/jug Large bowl Rolling pin Baking Trays Circle cutters/knife Cooling Tray
Cooking – Scottish Oatcakes METHOD Preheat your oven to 190 C/180 C Fan / 350 F and grease or line a few baking trays. In a large bowl rub the butter and the flour together Add in the oats, salt and water and mix together using your hands until the mixture forms a ball Roll out your dough until it is about 3 mm thick and cut circles out Place the circles onto a baking tray and place in the oven for 15 -20 minutes until golden brown and are not soft Leave to cool and then store in a sealed container or eat!

Art This week's art activity is: 'Create Your Own Miniature Art Gallery with a Scottish theme to celebrate Robert Burn's birthday’. Find a shoebox, cardboard box, or empty container. Imagine this is a room in your own Art Gallery or Museum and create artwork that fills your gallery using items found around the house or outside. Here a couple of examples – It would be lovely to see yours!

Living Skills Remember it is important to help with some of the work when you are at home!
