Some local History ………… Peckfield Colliery Disaster: Thursday 30 th April 1896. 124 years ago last week. Killing 63 men and boys out of 105 that were working down the pit. Plus 19 out of the 23 pit ponies. The mine was inspected at 7 am on the morning of the explosion and was found to be safe and free of gas. Question: How many of you can trace ancestors who were sadly involved in this local tragedy? Be Proud of Your Roots! The explosion happened at 7: 15 am. A small explosion disturbed the coal dust that had gathered on props, bars and roofs and sides which fired at the flame of the explosion. This is what caused the disaster. The disaster affected Micklefield, Allerton Bywater, Garforth and Aberford.

The monies raised we donated to Turners Syndrome Charity, as my sister’s friend has this and I thought it would be a good charity to choose’. Turner’s Syndrome: Turner syndrome (TS), also known 45, X, or 45, X 0, is a genetic condition in which a female is partly or completely missing an X chromosome. Signs and symptoms vary among those affected. Often, a short and webbed neck, low-set ears, low hairline at the back of the neck, short stature, and swollen hands and feet are seen at birth.
